Reason #1 — Smiling Draws Others to You
People who smile are perceived to be more approachable, more trustworthy, and more confident, all traits that others are attracted to.
Reason #2 — Smiling is Good for Your Heart
No joke! When you smile, your brain recognizes that there are no threats present, allowing you to relax. When you relax, your cortisol levels decrease, reducing your blood pressure and improving your overall heart health. Even a fake smile can do the trick!
Reason #3 — Smiling is Contagious
Try smiling at a complete stranger, and chances are they’ll smile back. Even in the worst of moods, smiling is hard to resist. And if an angry stranger doesn’t return your smile, then you’ve lost absolutely nothing.
Reason #4 — Smiling Makes You Feel Good
When you smile, your body releases feel-good hormones known as endorphins. Not only do endorphins make you feel good, they reduce stress and can even reduce pain. Who needs ibuprofen when you can simply smile?
If there is anything I can do to help you smile, then please let me know. Whether it’s a dental exam or a “dad joke,” I’ll do whatever I can to see those pearly whites.
